Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Uber's current pricing is unsustainable, but they are backed by significant VC which covers the significant losses they make. The idea is to remove as much competition and become uber profitable once driverless cars are introduced.

When that point arrives, all this debate about the black cab vs Uber will be redundant.

Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Can't be for tax reason far cough, cos that's the thing Johnson was banging on about taxi drivers doing that earlier and that would make him a hypocrite, and I doubt he's that. Although the way I see it is the investors have pumped money into this company taking the losses in the hope they can undercut taxis around the world to put them out of business then hike the prices up to extortionate prices to start making a profit. Remeber this is the company that charged x5 during tube strikes and x3 after terrorist attacks so god knows what they'll charge when they have the monopoly, In the very long run they want to get rid of all the drivers and use driverless cars to then take 100% of all the money, and that's why they've had so much investment. Unfortunately for them uber drivers around the world have successfully sued uber to become employees which entitles them to employment rights which means they can't get rid of them so easily when the driverless tech comes in. That's why uber are appealing the high courts desision in this country that uber drivers are their employees, which is why they are finding it harder to find investors willing to put in to the uber fund, although I'm sure they'll find ways of persuading people to invest. They must be the most morally corrupt company on the planet.

Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
The company does not pay corporate or income tax and NI yet their drivers are on working tax credits and housing benefit.
They can not possibly vet all their drivers properly too, how do you do proper checks on people who have no or little history here?
The don't all have hire & reward ins, they don't have the same safety costs that black cabs do.
That is how the fairs are cheap.

Tax?

Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
I know nothing about accounting principles, in fact I know nothing about accounting, why would they pretend to lose 3 billion dollars a year?

Johnson 9:24 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
No, Uber are using widely known accounting principles to make it look like they are losing $3bn. Fact.

Ritchie9 9:16 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Uber are losing 3 billion dollars a year. Fact.

Johnson 9:04 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Why does that mean they’re happy for Uber to be subsidised by the tax payer (which they’re not really)?

13 Brentford Rd 9:02 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
No I haven't, fair number on here think the ban is wrong and literally millions are up in arms judging by the petition.

Johnson 9:01 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Why would people continually plough money into a business losing $3bn a year exactly?

Who are these fools? I can lose them a few million if they’re keen.

Ritchie9 8:59 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Not sure I've ever cried about uber drivers getting subsidised, it was more an idea so TfL could reduce taxi drivers prices by the government levelling the playing field by subsidising them too. Or of course uber could raise their prices by the 60% they are currently being subsidised by investors to actually start making a profit instead of losing 3 billion dollars a year, pay the government 20% vat and pay their drivers at least a minimum wage, although idiots think the prices uber charge are the going rate so maybe my idea of subsidising the cabbies is the way to go.

Right, so you’ve made it up. Good work.

Just about anybody who thinks they are entitled to cheap taxi fares / won't accept this decision.

Who’s said that Rylan for you to repeat it?

13 Brentford Rd 8:48 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Just to be sure here.....It's okay for taxpayers to subsidise Uber, and it's okay for Uber to exploit their workers and put their passengers safety at risk.

Johnson 8:43 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
I bought that up because you were crying about Uber drivers getting subsidies, so a completely relevant point as not declaring your income is subsidising yourself.

Apologies for making a relevant point.

I was just responding to the fact you brought up cabbies not paying tax for some strange reason.

Johnson 8:22 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Are you thick or pissed?

I was talking about the other tradespeople you bought up for some strange reason.

Ritchie9 8:20 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Apologies Johnson you are absolutely right, we shouldn't be mentioning black cabs at all as this thread is about uber being stripped of their operators license over being not fit and proper because 80 women have been raped/sexually assaulted in their cars in the last 2 years (what we know about) cos they also have not been passing on other allegations to the police over other rapes/sexual assaults leaving the drivers free to do it again, also don't forget the dodgy criminal record check where now TfL have to trawl through 13000 current driver applications. Not to mention Uber's questionable business model. So like you said we are not talking about them so let's leave the black cabs out of this thread.

Johnson 7:39 Sun Sep 24
Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Of course, all tradespeople have the potential to go on the fiddle but we’re not talking about them so that’s an irrelevant and shit defence.

Re: Uber stripped of licence to operate in London
Don't know Johnson you tell me? I'm no accountant, and I've never asked every single cabbie about their tax affairs. Have you? But I tell you a fact they all accept credit cards now, and have 3 apps so if in the past they got away with it they certainly won't anymore, I assume you always make sure you pay any builder, plumber, decorator with a card in case they are on the fiddle too. I predict Sid James will post on here soon to post some more stereotypical rubbish from the 70's.
